As part of the environmental and social impact study of the construction project for the new OHADA headquarters building and in accordance with the texts governing the subject, a public consultation meeting was held on October24, 2018 in the conference room of the Permanent Secretariat in Yaounde (Cameroon).
Chaired by Mr. Cosmas Thierry NAMA, Deputy Prefect of Yaounde 1st district, in the presence of Professor Dorothé C. SOSSA, OHADA Permanent Secretary, this meeting was attended by the local population, the head of Djoungolo 1st district and the GEST firm, mandated to conduct the environmental and social impact study of the project.
In his speech, OHADA Permanent Secretary welcomed all the participants and thanked the Deputy Prefect of Yaounde 1st district for having agreed to personally chair the meeting. He welcomed the constant support of the highest Cameroonian authorities to OHADA's actions and said that the Republic of Cameroon's decisive support for the construction project of the new headquarters building was a further illustration.
In his opening speech, the Deputy Prefect of Yaounde 1st district thanked OHADA for its invitation and welcomed the project to locate the new headquarters building in his district. He specified that the public consultation meeting aims to allow the project to be carried out in the best interests of all, before declaring the work open.
These interventions were followed by communications from the various stakeholders on the legal and institutional framework, the presentation of the new building project, then the presentation of the impacts as well as the enhancement or mitigation measures. Subsequent exchanges enabled participants to make observations and obtain insights on subjects as diverse as the project's land base, the planned measures to combat noise pollution, the priority recruitment of local workers during the works, tax risk management and the consideration of the safety of people and property.
At the end of these constructive exchanges, the local populations and representatives of neighbouring services and administrations expressed their full support to the project and wished its effective start. The Deputy Prefect of Yaounde 1st district closed the meeting by inviting all stakeholders to collaborate for the success of this important project, which will be the pride of Cameroon.
The Permanent Secretary reiterates his gratitude to the Cameroonian authorities and reiterates his call for the mobilization of all stakeholders for the successful implementation of the project to build the new OHADA headquarters building. /-
